The historical village of Foixà, extends to the right of the River Ter and was described by Josep Pla (a famous writer) as pure delight and wonder. It is divided into three main areas: firstly around the 11th century hill top castle, secondly the Church where the population is less compact, and finally, separated by a 1 kilometre, we have the neighbourhood called “The Masos”.
Our village has about 200 inhabitants, we share a mayor with “Sala”, which has seventy inhabitants, and with “St Llorens” which has about fifty inhabitants. In total we have about 330 people, in an area about 19Km2.
Most of the inhabitants make their living from agriculture and livestock.
The story goes that king Juan I “El Caçador” (Hunter), died in the forest of Foixà. However, there are various legends about the cause of his death. On the way to the castle there is a cross to his memory.
